National Trust

THE BRIEF

During the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign, the Chartist movement revolted against the strengthening of England’s industrial and commercial prosperity which they believed was being achieved by the exploitation of the industrial working class.

Originally Rose Cottage, Rosedene was part of a larger Chartist settlement in Dodford in which around 40 plots, each of four acres, were built in an attempt to resettle people from industrial towns to a life of self-sufficiency in the countryside. Each occupant would have to pay ground rent, but ownership meant entitlement to a vote.

The National Trust got in touch with us here at Creative Pie Films to produce a video to tell the story of Rosedene Cottage to help raise awareness and also promote the Cottage as you can actually stay there!

THE PRODUCTION

We’ve worked with the National Trust on a few projects over the years and each project is different in regards to storytelling but it’s always a pleasure as they have so many resources, artifacts and information on hand.

During this project we had the ultimate resource….two amazing volunteers, Nan and John, who maintain the gardens of Rosedene and also act as tour guides for the site.

Even though they were nervous about delivering the script they did a perfect job. Some people merely read a script but Nan and John brought a performative style to its delivery which makes the content all that more engaging for the audience.

We then captured as much of the site as possible from ground and air and also asked John to get his Spork out and do some gardening for us!

Thanks to the National Trust for ‘trusting’ us with this project.
